Proposal Form

Describe your idea for the brief:
I aim to create a classy, yet fun, new, Indie Pop/Indie Rock magazine which appeals to the target audience.

Genre / sub genre: list similar texts which have inspired your thoughts:
The magazines NME and Q have inspired my choice of magazine as they both contain this genre.

Target audience: gender / age / characteristics / behaviour
The magazine is aimed at both men and women, but mainly women, around the ages of 16 - 25. Their characteristics would probably be fun, out-going, sophisticated and have a love for festival and gig environments.

Major conventions I will use:
A main image of a young, glamorous model portraying a new, upcoming singer. The model will be shot in a medium close-up with a "chocolate box" type of pose. This will emphasise flawless beauty and will create an inviting front cover. I will tease the enigma code with an engaging main sell line to draw in the audience.

Conventions I may subvert / change / not use:
I may include a free gift to my magazine accompanied with buzz words to attract the reader more. The colour palette will include a few contrasting colours. I may change these colours depending on the photographs of the model and the colours of the text and images on the different pages.

Original Images what / where:
Young female model photographed at a studio with a professional camera.

Potential difficulties / Plan B:
Booking a studio may be difficult to organise, therefore taking a professional camera and using a white back drop and lights would give a similar effect.

Musical Influences

Lana Del Rey is an artist who has appeared on the cover of Q and NME. She fits into the Indie pop genre and her target audience is around 16-30 year olds, male and female. She represents an artist that would be found in my music magazine.

Kasabian are an Indie Rock band. They have also appeared on the covers of NME and Q numerous times due to their popularity. Their target audience is around 16-35 year olds male and female. They also represent a type of band that would be found in my magazine.

Both music artists share target audiences of similar genres and age ranges. They suit the type of people who enjoy festivals and unique styles of music which are an alternative to your stereotyped chart music.

Magazine research and inspirations

Q magazine and NME magazine are inspirations for creating my own music magazine.
NME includes many different artists but mainly focusses on the Indie/Rock culture. Q magazine is very similar but also includes artists which are very popular at the time of the magazine release, which is monthly. NME is released weekly.

I enjoy listening to a mixture of Indie pop/Indie Rock music, as well as many other people my own age, therefore I will shape my magazine towards this.
NME and Q are both a hybrid of different music genres, I want to use this for my own magazine as I feel a variation creates a more interesting and appealing magazine, therefore attracting a stronger audience.
My target audience for my magazine is around 16-25 year olds, male and female but mainly focussing on a more feminine side.
